Blogging conflicts

I haven't posted much lately because I am feeling conflicted about blogs. You see, I enjoy keeping in contact with friends and finding out what is going on with their lives. However, reading some blogs make me feel as though everyone else's life is fabulous and fun while mine is decidedly... well, not. Is everyone else on the planet more creative, more beautiful, and more exciting than I am? I think I need to take a vacation from blogspot until I can get a little self-esteem boost.

Understandably, no one wants to be a Debbie Downer and so we all post about the good, great, wonderful happenings in our worlds. I wonder, though: has it become a competition? And are we all living our lives in order to have something to post on our blogs?

At least I know I'm not the only one who has felt this way.  John showed me this irreverently funny spot which spoofs the wonderful world of blogging. I laughed and laughed and laughed.

Until I can reconcile my feelings about blogging I have determined that from now on, I will only post things that I find inspiring, beautiful, humorous, or just regular news updates about our lives. Hopefully, you won't read anything here that will make you feel like you need to keep up with the Joneses (or the Papworths, in this case). And although I can't imagine anyone being envious of our boring lives, I do post this by way of an apology for things that may have made anyone feel bad in the past.

By the way, to all friends and family reading this: I love all of your blogs and don't want you to stop posting! I'm referring more to extraneous blogs.

I have been through those same feelings before too. No worries. My life isnt that fab either (which is why I post about tv, mostly). I started feeling like everyone had a HUGE house, HUGE vacations, HUGE car, and blah blah blah. But then I realized, everyone isnt like that. Just the people who have rich parents. hahaha

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i feel EXACTLY the same way! remember when i posted that long post about how i was going to stop blogging and you wrote on mine about how you won't be able to buy a house til you're 50? don't worry, us too! we are in the same boat, and though i do feel like there are several people out there who only use their blogs for bragging about how wonderful their lives are, yours is one that truly makes the smiths excited. we are constantly looking to see more pics of nora and-- to be honest it is really hard to keep up with the papburgers!! plus i think that all those people who write about how wonderful their lives are are insecure. we dont need to prove to anyone how great our lives are. just be real already. so know you are not the only ones and if you want, i will post a blog with you about all the not great things in our lives. maybe we can start a trend. how about that for keeping up with the joneses?

I just really love seeing pictures of Nora! I get so excited when I see that you've put up new pics of her (she's so stinkin cute). With big families, and inlaws, and friends, it is SUCH a good way to share news, show pics, talk about the good and the bad, and a great journal to have for your kids when they grow up. Don't stop blogging Sarah! I'd miss you!
ps- I'm coming to HB for 2 months, getting there Aug 20. Let's have some pool and park days!

so that link was hilarious, and I laughed the whole time I was looking at it. It was so close to what I see and probably post myself sometimes that it was embarrassing. We love your blog though and we think you guys are great. I do get jealous of you guys every time I see a new picture of Nora though. She is so dang cute.

Hi guys! Hillary here. Just wanted to let you know that I LOVE seeing the updates about your lives from time to time and believe that one of the beauties of blogging is that you can just read about the everyday happenings. Doesn't have to be exciting cool stuff, just the things that make your lives YOURS! Those are the things that have made your readers your friends, and those people don't care about your things or the "greatness" of what you have to blog about. It's just fun to be able to see what you're up to!! Just my two cents :-) Keep it coming!!

By "don't care about your things" I mean your physical things, just in case that wasn't clear :-)

I am always envious of the Papworth's and a little jealous that we don't live by you guys anymore. Kate and Nora would be really good friends. I love that you made this post, you are not alone. Just remember I still like reading about your lives so just remember to sometimes post stuff about yourself. And by the way I do think at times when I pull out my camera, Would I be taking this picture if I didn't have a blog? I understand your moral dilemma.

My favorite part about blogs is writing about how cool I am in the third person!
Where else could I pull that off?
Besides, if I didn't blog, who else could I lie about all my accomplishments to?

I feel you. When I see everyone elses blogs I think in this order 1) She is skinnier than me and she's had a kid. What's wrong with me? 2) They seem to do all these fun things and have a fun life, what's wrong with me? 3) They have kids, what's wrong with me?? There seems to be a theme running in my mind. (= I know what you're saying. Sometimes my life is not so exciting, I work in a really cool job, but for 7 out of 8 weeks I'm at home, in my room- making calls, waiting for the 8th week for the human contact outside my home. That's why I post so erratically, not a lot going on so I'm not gonna stress about it and try to create something out of nothing. I just like peeking at other people's lives and seeing their cute kids. Keep posting, don't stress. By the way, your little girl is adorable!

Oh my beautiful Sarah...I have so been feeling this way too. My life doesn't seem as glamorous as all of my lovely friends (and their friends). I do enjoy catching up on your lives though and will continue to check for pictures and stories! We love you guys!

Hey guys, Nora is ridiculously cute. You guys make goood babies. (Teenagers, well that has yet to be seen).

I haven't been much into blogs--Kathryn just created ours last week. I can see how it can be much like the dreaded "Christmas letters" sent by The Perfect Family. I wrote a "Christmas Letter" one year that was a joke, it went something like this.

Dear Friends and Family:

It has been an exciting year. Zack got his GED after we took him to the testing center for the fifth time. Hanging around to make sure he didn't leave with "friends" was the trick. Emma is expecting in June. We don't really know the father's family that well but have entered into grandparent mediation with them through the court's family services. Madeline finally landed a part on the school play. Spending all that time taking free lesson's at Mr. Pedo's home on Phile street finally paid off. Caleb and Isaac had great soccer teams. Each managed to finish a little over half their soccer games without red cards. (Youth referee's just totally s____k.) Noah is sooo cute and smart! He did manage to light a tree in the backyard on fire. Caleb and Isaac taught him how to use the barbecue lighter. (Those rascals!) I can't believe I didn't have my camera! Kathryn found a great company of Indonesia where we buy all our anti-depressants which has saved us a BUNDLE! She is so thrifty. I finally got that misunderstanding with the bar about the alleged misappropriation"" of client funds all cleared up. My client FINALLY admitted he told me to buy that car for Zack with client money. All in all a great year for the Lounsbury's--no new arrests and zero probation violations.

We wish all of you and yours a Merry Christmas.
