I will tell you all---even though some may not agree---that the most beautiful city in the world is Paris. Have I been to all the cities in the world so I can objectively make this decision? No. But I have been to Paris, and that's all I need.
Our friends, Brooke and Peter, are going to take a holiday to the City of Lights soon and it has started me thinking and reminiscing. For those who will indulge, this is my ode to Paris.
I have never felt more at home than I did while living in France. Only a week or so after settling in, I began to notice that the girls there dressed like me (or I like them? I suppose I'm not the center of the universe). As I became more and more acquainted with the ways of the Parisians, I realized that their life and culture were, for the most part, what I would choose if I could dream up a perfect world. Ah, the patisseries, the beautiful buildings, the joie de vivre, the love and appreciation of art, the public transportation, the fresh fruits, and the desire to be surrounded by beauty. I don't believe it can get any better.
Until I go back again, I will imagine myself wandering through the tree canopied Jardin du Luxembourg, perusing the collection at Shakespeare and Co., or racing through tunnels filled with stale air to catch the next Metro train.
Paris, Je t'aime.

oh stop it! you make me cry! Paris = heaven on earth. I remember going shopping with you and wanting you to pick out everything I bought. My husband thinks he has been to paris already - I am worse than a RM. Now I've got to go revise my Paris Trip for 2030...AGAIN!!! ps where is Britta?
oh yeah, and about your post on blogging conflicts - amen!
ASHLEY!!! Oh how I have missed you! You need to get a blog so we can stay in touch... or I guess we could go for old fashioned email. And Britta? I've been wondering the same thing. Where is that girl?
she's a figment of both of your imaginations.
i do love paris. i'm hoping we'll be able to get back there for xmas with my dad this year.
(although the best city in the world for me will always be rome, but i'm obviously biased)
oohhh, i like this post. if you can just get over here, i will pack you in our suitcases and take you with us!? isn't paris amazing, and i agree about it feeling just like the perfect world, completely at home...plan a trip, even if it's a ways off, we'll meet you guys there!
and on a sidenote, do you remember those crepe parties we had in provo, where we'd be competing to see who could make the best ones?! so funny...
umm, did you know where we are moving in Germany is a little less than three hours away from Paris? Did you know that that means you should come and visit me while I'm there and you have a fREE place to stay?
just so you know, as per your suggestion, i indulged in my first ever french macaroon and then bought a box full. they were both lovely and tasty and i'd like to find a place that sells them in more colors and flavors.
now, if only i had the funds to get myself over to gay ol' paris . . .
thanks for the kind words and saying hi. I really appreciate it. And I think I felt the same way when I was in Paris. I can't put into words what my experiences meant there. Europe in and of itself was the most grounding experience of my life and most of its my own fault, but I would definitely blame some of the amazing people we met there as well. But Paris above any city I've been to in the world definitely sticks out more than any other. All the best you guys.
