oh, the sweet sound of school bells

I was in Target the other day and ran into the treasure trove of school supplies in the back of the store. It was such a lovely sight. Pens, pencils, paper, notebooks---heaven! Do you remember the Staples commercial from a few years ago in which a father is kicking his heels down the aisle, grabbing school supplies while "it's the most wonderful time of the year" played in the background? That is how I've always felt about back-to-school time.

I've always had a love affair with school. What could be better than learning something new every day? And when I was able to study the things I loved in college, all this learning business became ten thousand times better. Also, there is something that stirs inside of me when I am surrounded by academia; I feel inspired simply to walking into a classroom.

I miss it and I want to go back.

Someday I will. But before then I will become the joyful parent kicking her heels down the aisles of Staples, stocking up on spiral-bound notebooks, erasers, highlighters, crayons, glue sticks. . . . and on and on and on.

i really like this post, sarah. and i concur with you: school is the best thing. and all the supplies that go along with it...i think there should be an air freshener that smells like erasers and sharpened pencils. is that wierd?!

There is something about school supplies that is so appealing:) We were just the parents going down the aisles of Staples getting all of Lucie's supplies for school! It was fun to read your post because you described what we are just beginning!
John...can you believe that it has been 5 years since you watched Lucie. My how time flies...enjoy every moment with Nora...you will be the joyful parent going down the Staples aisle before you know it!!
